This week, one of the jobs we did was replacing the roof of a garage in Royal Oak. The old roof was in bad shape and some of the wooden decking needed to be replaced. We did a complete tear-off of the old roof and installed new Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles in the Coastal Granite color.

Before Roof Replacement

Why do we always tear off the old shingles?

It’s the only way to do a proper job and it’s also the best way to avoid any future problems. It also gives us a chance to repair or replace any issues with the wood or ventilation. You never want to install new shingles when there could be underlying problems.

What wood gets replaced?

There can be a lot of damage that goes undetected under the shingles of a roof. Some of the most common problems are with the wood decking that the roof sits on. If the wood is rotting, it can cause water damage to the inside of the building. It’s also important to check for any vents or chimneys that may need to be replaced. If they’re not properly sealed, it can let in water and snow, which can lead to further damage.

What are ice and water shield and synthetic underlayment for?

Ice and water shield is a material that is used to prevent water from getting into the roof decking. It is installed under the shingles and helps to keep the roof decking dry. Synthetic underlayment is a material that is used in place of roofing felt. It is waterproof and helps to keep the roof decking dry.

Why Atlas Pinnacle Pristine?

The new Atlas Pinnacle Pristine shingles that we installed this week have 3M ScotchGuard protection. That means that they are resistant to fading, staining, and algae growth.  They also have a lifetime warranty against streaking, cracking, and peeling.
